CLUB PLAY
• Code of Play at Club Sessions
Petanque Wallingford is now a large club with over 60 members, and is in the enviable position of
having two terrains with different playing surfaces covering 10 or 11 pistes altogether. Some members
like to take part in competitions with other clubs, and other members have no interest in doing so;
this has no bearing on members’ rights within the club. All members are equal, and all members are
entitled to play on whichever terrain they wish. To avoid misunderstanding and argument, the
following code of play should be followed at club sessions, as agreed at the AGM on 25th November
2021:
• Members will choose the terrain they wish to play on before the start of play, and will then join
the throw-in for that terrain.
• If only a small number of players are available for a session, members will agree amicably how to
split the play so as to ensure adequate numbers for an enjoyable game or games on one or both
terrains. A simple majority vote should be used to decide, if necessary.
• Please respect the choices of other members, please be flexible, and please treat each other with
courtesy.

PW CLUB GAMES (Requiring response to TEAMER**):
• Club Games/Matches are open to everyone in the club, no matter how good you think you are
Its all about having fun. More information about club games to follow. Keep an eye on the notice boards too.
• Sunday Melees. (Not to be confused with Regional Sunday Matches)
WHAT IS A MELEE? (French for Mixed Up)
A TEAMER** (see below) is sent out to everyone advising that this game is being organised. It is very helpful to the organiser if people reply asap because it makes things more efficient so that we can start on time.
This is how it works:
CLUB COACHING
The club has 3 PE registered coaches, Mike Marshall, Chris Shaw and Loren Butt.
Mike Marshall will be offering coaching sessions during the Tuesday Morning Club Sessions.

** TEAMER – What is it?
TEAMER, the software we used to advise members of games we organise and for organisers to know who/how many people are coming along. It is only visible to club members, not the whole world.
You will get an invite to join Teamer, giving you a temporary password. Use this password to log on to teamer and change the password to proper one only you know. Once you have accepted the invitation, ONLY YOU change anything on your entry (eg a spelling mistake, a phone number).
You can THEN LOG IN TO TEAMER and respond to either
It would be very helpful if you reply to teamer as soon as you can.
It would also be helpful if you turn up 15 minutes early so we can do the work required so that we can start play ON TIME.

WHAT IS A MELEE? (French for Mixed Up)
A TEAMER** (see below) is sent out to everyone advising that this game is being organised. It is very helpful to the organiser if people reply asap because it makes things more efficient so that we can start on time.
This is how it works:
- A number is allocated to each person as they arrive to register and pay
(£3 split 50/50 between prizes and club funds).
- Players are given a score sheet with their Number and Name added.
- Once we know how many people are playing we put a red counter into the magic random mixing bag.
- The Hook Board is placed on display and counters are taken from the bag and hung on the hooks.
- Games are Doubles, Triples or Mixed (2v3) depending on numbers. Piste Numbers are as shown on the Hook Board.
- A list of players (downloaded from **Teamer which is why it important that you reply) is printed out and their playing numbers, as allocated on arrival, are added. This list is displayed so that everyone can see who's who.
- Each game (usually 3) is 40min – hooter/whistle indicates start
and after the allotted time, a whistle indicates the end is to be finished, plus one end to be played. - All the score sheets are collected and sorted – 3 wins and points difference. If two or more players have 3 wins, the winner is the player with the highest points difference. If there are two with the same points difference, then a throw off will be required.
- There are 3 (modest) cash prizes – 1st, 2nd & 3rd (depending how many people have played; the more players the higher the prize pot!)
- A record is kept of scores and the 'top' player is awarded the Annual Melee Shield at the end of the year.
CLUB COACHING
The club has 3 PE registered coaches, Mike Marshall, Chris Shaw and Loren Butt.
Mike Marshall will be offering coaching sessions during the Tuesday Morning Club Sessions.
- These sessions, covering the basic technical elements, will be particularly suited to new or newish members but are open to everyone.
- If you feel your technique could do with some help please feel free to join up.
- To keep numbers manageable and to ensure everyone gets some one-to-one time with the coach the groups will be limited to 5 per session.
- Contact Mike Marshall by email mike@firecresthouse.com to book a place or use the form on the website. (see left)
