We dressed ourselves in club colours (white polo shirts, red logo badge, beige trousers – all matching, and Loren in his official EPA Coach shirt. Very smart we looked too) and off we went to the Oxford University Club at 2.30 yesterday afternoon to layout the 8 pistes and set up the melee board for the expected 50 people. EPA provided 48 boules and the club provided 48. Half were marked with black stripes, and half, (ours), were sparkling shiny new. Play was on the cricket field. Our Carnival activities, where we played on GRASS, stood us in good stead. This time it was wet grass, so pretty springy. Carter Jonas provided the gazebos in case it rained. Well, it did. Buckets of the stuff. But fortunately the rain stopped after about 20 minutes and we had a splendid afternoon of sunshine.
Thirty eight people arrived in plenty of time to sort out the teams for the first game and play began on 6 pistes at 4.30. Loren gave everyone a quick demonstration of how to go about playing and he and G and T supervised play. By 7.00 four games had been played and everyone was ready for the barbecue and liquid refreshments (not pastis!) but an array of beers and wines or soft drinks.
Prizegiving was held at just before 8.00 – after which everyone gradulally drifted home, having had a really good time. We hope they enjoyed themselves so much that we will have the opportunity to arrange a function for them again next year.
