Les Rouges played Twiglets – Paul, Dean (his son) and Alan Dawes – in their first game, so a good taster of what was to come. All three of them are fab pooters – pointer-shooters! so when Loren says you should have all the shots in your ‘armoury’ this is exactly what he means – be able to play the shot required – shoot or point as necessary. And they did! I think we scored 3. Did they let us? Maybe not ….
LAD (Laura, Alex and Dan) were our next opponents. They are very strong and skilled and old enough to be our grandchildren! Needless to say they out-pointed (and outshot) us soundly. We got 5.
Our third game in the morning was against the three ladies – they could only point – but did they point! We got 3 hard won points. We weren’t fannied at all, having won our 4th game, but we went into the consolante in the afternoon.
We had a nice picnic lunch on the cricket field and recruited our strength for the afternoon meeting. We played Living the Dream – Aaron, Aaron and Tom. We stared off with a fantastic 5, but hopes were soon dashed as they too have an armoury, but we finished with 10 points, so not too bad. They went on to win the Plate, Well done to the youngsters (more grandchildren material!)
We watched the nail biting final between Eagles 13 and Twiglets. The eventual outcome was Gus, Mark and Soots – Eagles 13 – won the Tournament. Well done guys! Les Rouges find it a pleasure to be beaten by such good players.
Roll on 18th August when we will play in the Regionals …
