Two Petanque Wallingford Teams took part in the first Sunday League: Red Kites: Adrian A, Paul H, Debbie H, John H, Simon R, Alec H, and Red Herrings: Chris S, Sarah M. Val S, Dave S, Pete J, Bridget J, Steve G, Mike M.
The Red Kites had a trip to Arborfield. Sadly, they suffered some heavy losses. Debbie and Paul H had a close doubles match which unfortunately ended in a 9-13 defeat against Mark Blackall and Phil King. Both other teams lost to some very experienced Arborfield players. Debbie & Paul did better in the triples with Debbie, John H and Paul winning their first match 13-1, Paul’s shooting skills were constantly tested and John H managed a fantastic boule-on-boule shot killing the end...., but sorry to say all other matches were lost. The Red Kites team included two new players John H and Simon R, who both enjoyed the day and gained some valuable experience, their first time playing on a different challenging terrain against some experienced quality players. It's great to see new players putting themselves forward and helping to keep Petanque Wallingford on the map. Better luck next time, Kites!!
The Red Herrings played at home against Winnersh Wanderers. A beautiful sunny weather, but still very cold. Great to see our pals from Winnersh after so long. Some very close games with the final result Red Herrings 4 wins and Wanderers 3. Unfortunately Maggie and Charlie had left by the time we took the photo.
