The day dawned a bit overcast, but the forecast promised sunny spells. So off we all went to Burnham for a lovely day of petanque. There were 8 teams and we played 7 games each. PW came 5th - had we won one more game, or two even ... well anything could happen. It was a long day,

PW played the Bozos last night - Bozos have been playing for ages (at least 20 years) and we have been at it for at most 5! so taking one game off them on their home terrain is pretty good - well that's my excuse! Here is the table, we are fifth but there are many games to go still - socks up team.
Petanque Wallingford played Harrow on the Boulodrome this evening and PW won the match 3 : 2. Only 1 point difference PW got 48 and Harrow 47. Here is the table showing the standings on 11th April.
Red Herrings played Burnham at Home and Red Kites played Winnersh Wanderers at Winnersh.
A great win today for the Red Kites: they won 6 games (3 doubles and 3 triples) and the only game they lost was 10 – 13, so they scored 88 points to Winnersh's 53. Red Herrings were beaten 5 – 2 by Burnham, which means that Red Kites are top of the league, with Burnham second. We have the same number of match points (8), the same game difference (+11), but our points difference of +111 is far superior to Burnham's. How long Red Kites stay top of the league is anyone's guess! Weekend and Weekday Leagues continue apace. Here are the tables for the last Weekend League match played. Red Kites are second - as you will see. Weekend League, after 4 matches. (next Weekend league on Sunday 9th April Red Kites at Winnersh and Red Herrings at Home on the Boulodrome) Weekday League (Tuesdays) Our team is Chris and Chris, Mark, Adrian, Sarah and Steve. They played last Tuesday and beat the Cygnets 5:0
This is the table after 4 games. The next game is on 11 April at the Boulodrome v Harrow. Only 12 teams (of 3 or 4) are entering the Regionals, so they all go to Hayling Island in September. Today they met to play for positions - 8 teams will play in the 'Championship' and 4 teams in the 'Challenge'.
Petanque Wallingford is putting in two teams - Odd one Out = Chris H and Chris S and Mark make up one team; and Red Arrows = Moiya, Steve, Gerry, and Mal (from Winnersh playing for PW) make up the other team. This is the standing so far. The final RTQS will take place on 30th April. Two PW members are the team managers for Hayling. Let's hope we don't have RAIN like last year! |
