After a disastrous day on Sunday when the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee River Pageant and numerous street parties were rained on, the weather, for us, was good – overcast, but the forecast rain (20% predication of precipitation by 12-ish) was accurate.
We had four guests, Coach brought the mêlée board and we played four games on three pistes. And, would you believe it! Two of the guests won 2 of the prizes. We had a little prize giving ceremony, accompanied by a speech from the President with cheers and applause all round. First place went to John with +17, Second place went to Javier with +13 and Third place went to Gerry with +12. T got the wooden spoon ….
But three of the guests signed up as members and we look forward to seeing them again. We finished the morning with some coffee and nibbles and … yes, the rain finally arrived but it was actually 1.15, and we had had our game and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.
Our next outing will be Wallingford Carnival when we will have a full size piste to play on. We will play and hope members of the public will stop and watch, and perhaps have a game too, and join the club.
The event after the Carnival will be our next Club Match when we hope some more members will join in. Details of the date and format will be posted as soon as I have heard from everyone about their availability. Meantime, see you (and the Bird) tomorrow night at the Bear.
PS: Just received an email from the Thames Valley Petanque Association for entry to the TVPA Triples on 1st July. What about it bouligans? Shall we brave it and have a go?
