1) to provide additional playing opportunities/competition for our members - especially those working and
2) to try and take back control of our shelter during the evenings and dissuade the untidy and sometimes disrespectful 'visitors' who began frequenting our club during the summer evenings.
16 members quickly signed up for play and Steve drew up one league of 8 pairs. The floodlit terrains were used - one match on each so as to comply with Petanque England Covid 19 rules. 8 people played on Monday evenings and 8 on Wednesday evenings with plenty of space between the teams. The games took place over 7 weeks from end of June to mid August, a total of 28 best-of-three matches. Special dotty trophies were made for this event and they were presented to the winners on Sunday 23rd August. Mark and Ava (his daughter) were the winners. Thank you Steve for organising the event.
Steve utilised Googlesheets spreadsheets to devise a scoresheet for the summer league. Link here. Googlesheets is like an online version of an Excel spreadsheet. Googlesheets allows anyone with a link to view the sheet at any time to see how their team was getting on. Steve updated each team's worksheet after each match. Their worksheet linked through to the master worksheet where all the scores were maintained. Additional info was also recorded including a close games lost section that showed how many games were lost to a score of 10, 11 and 12. Consolation for those who could have finished much nearer the top of the league if only a few games had gone their way.
