Meanwhile our 6 of our number were playing Sunday Leagues at Bourne End Community Centre. Below is the table of how PW did. J and S fannied their opponents in the first game! The next League meeting will be on 21st June.
Today was our WASP play and true to form it was raining! Lightly, but rain nonetheless. We started registration at 10.00 in the drizzle, but fortunately it stopped by 10.30 so the 12 triples teams - SQUASH, TENNIS, HOCKEY, 41 CLUB, PETANQUE, PARK TRUSTEES and PARK MANAGEMENT could get on with play. Every one had a lovely time. We played three games before breaking for lunch in the Pavilion at 1.00 when the heavens opened, but by 2.00 when play was due to start again the rain stopped. We were very lucky. And the winners were 1st Place The Jigsaws (Petanque), 2nd Place Bit of a Racket (Tennis), 3rd Place 41 Club (The Oddballs). And they all want to do it again next year.

What a hectic day! Burnham Eagles agreed to come at 9am to the Boulodrome for our Sunday League Match - to avoid clashing with the 250 cars arriving for the annual 'Classic/Vintage/pretty old' car rally at the park. Cheryl and I had coffee and pains au chololat ready for the Burnham Eagles and our teams, and while they played Cheryl and I waved at the cars arriving and I took photographs (I had been instructed by my brother in law in the USA to take pictures of MGs and Triumphs for one of his friends!) A bit of a joke that because I knew a bus from a jeep, but that was about it. Red seemed to be the predominant colour of the vehicles and I got the idea that a red spotty car would be fun for us, but I only saw a car with one spot And while all this excitement was going on our team was getting beaten - not clobbered, but not winning! Here is a table of how things stand now. So on the 17th May we go to play Regional Pairs in Marlow, then on the 31 May PW will hold the WASP day (Wallingford All Sports Petanque in the Park) and the Sunday League team will play their 7th match.
They say the British are always concerned about the weather - well with weather like ours, we are! It rained at 5.00 this morning, and the forecast said it would be fine by 10. Hooray, and it was so off we went to play the 5th Sunday League match and us who were not involved in the league just to have some fun. The terrain was pretty wet, but because it is well drained, the pistes scheduled to be played on were OK. The other four were still a bit puddly, but as long as the cochonnet didn't float, we could play! And we did and had a lovely time playing in the puddle and around it too. And the sun came out and it was so pleasant in the warmth. Rain was due again at 2.30, according to The Forecast!
The Sunday Leaguers got on with their games - you can see the table below for the results. Then we all went off to the bar for some well-earned refreshments. When we were ready to leave we got to the door of the Pavilion - and it was POURING! Not raining - but 'chucking it down'. Oh well - only half an hour early. The rugby ladies county teams were having to wait for the rain to stop! Let's hope tomorrow is a nice day for our fun money-melee go round! |
